The first quarter of the school year has come to an end. I know that I can not be the only one that felt like the nine weeks flew by! Our students and staff have done an amazing job during this first nine weeks of getting adjusted to school for five days a week.

The elementary classroom has been doing fun hands-on projects in Science. This quarter they have been studying scientific investigations. Each student has been able to share their educated guesses about “what is going to happen” in science. They had a blast watching the interactions of lemon juice and baking soda.

During Social Thinking, the elementary classroom focused on “being kind”. The students created posters and other artwork displaying how to show kindness to others. They also worked on the key, “Human Factor”. They were able to apply their learning to practice being better friends to those in the classroom.

Our middle school classroom has been learning about scientific investigations as well. They were able to do an experiment with three liquids (Cola, Gatorade, and milk) and eggs. Each student gave their hypothesis of what was going to happen to the egg and then observed the eggs in the different liquids for 5 days. They were really surprised by the outcome of the eggs.

During Social Thinking, our middle school also worked on kindness. They were able to intertwine being kind with the Human Factor key as well as the Who Matters key.

Our high school classroom has been working hard on setting goals and completing work. We have had four 9th graders join us this year. They are making the necessary adjustments to settle in and get used to high school life.

The high school class has worked on many topics for Social Thinking. The biggest class discussion and key that has been focused on is “What’s in the way?” Students discus things that have been in their way and may have caused them not to be successful. Once they can identify these things, they work with staff to create positive Can Dos.

I look forward to seeing what our students and staff will learn in the upcoming quarter.

Warmest Regards,

Brandy L. Wright, Director
